Psychological Services
Emma offers individualised psychotherapy for adults (18+) seeking support for a range of reasons, such as:
- experiences of anxiety, worry, stress or panic
- low mood or depressed feelings
- difficulty creating and maintaining healthy relationships
- difficulty adjusting to changes/stressors in life or managing stress
- coping with grief and loss
- anger and conflict-related issues
- low self-esteem and confidence
- long-standing trauma tied to past life events
- difficulty managing emotional responses in everyday situations
- self-exploration and building self-understanding
- wanting better connections with oneself and with others
- clinically diagnosed conditions such as anxiety, depression or personality disorders
Emma takes an integrative and collaborative approach to treatment. Contemporary psychodynamic psychotherapy style is the primary treatment modality, and other treatment approaches (e.g., CBT, ACT, mindfulness) are integrated as appropriate to support clients. Through an initial assessment stage (typically 2-3 sessions), Emma works with each client to develop an individualized treatment plan which is in line with clinical concerns and clients’ personal therapeutic goals.
Some benefits of short-term intervention may include a reduction in unpleasant symptoms or unhelpful behaviours, and the development of more helpful life coping skills, for example. Longer-term psychodynamic work may suit clients who want to focus on deeper emotional healing, build a greater sense of connection in life, and make lasting meaningful changes in the relationship between the self and others. Appointments are held weekly or fortnightly depending on clients’ needs and the treatment plan.
Sessions are held online (aka Telehealth) via Zoom, and you can find out if this may be suitable for you by clicking here. Please note that this service is not appropriate for individuals struggling with a significant risk to one’s safety. See the contact page for some alternative services, or call emergency services (000) or the mental health access line (1300 642 255) if in need of immediate crisis support.
Getting Started
Starting therapy for the first time or with a new therapist can bring up a range of feelings on its own - it might feel daunting, scary, or exciting! Psychotherapy requires us to turn our attention inwards and challenge ourselves in some way, and seeking help to do this takes courage and a willingness to invest in oneself. Emma takes the time to get to know clients’ concerns and wishes for treatment, and hopes to provide the safe therapeutic space to support you on your journey.
